Theme: Seasons of Life

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6, Galatians 5:1, Psalms 62:5, Colossians 3:1-3, 1 Corinthians 7:7-9

“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Colossians 3:2-3

What was the best pick up line you have heard or used?

“I thought I would be married by this time”.

Why haven’t I found the right person?”

Will I ever find the right person?”

You are getting old, maybe you shouldn’t be so picky.”

I think it is safe to assume that we have all heard these lines before. Whether you have been single for a period of time or find yourself newly single, the world is changing on the topic of singleness.

When I was in high school, if you wanted to find a husband or wife, you should head to The Master’s College. Ring by spring!

Well, I am not the same person I was in high school or college or graduate school. I thought I would be married by this time, but I never found the right person.

But, then, have I slowed down long enough to look. Ouch.

Singleness has changed over the years. Online dating has brought many couples together, but what if you keep missing that special someone?

The modern single has community groups, exercising buddies, church friends, cohabiters, and any other scenario you can think of.

Let’s explore how singleness has changed over the years, and how we can live in community in all seasons of life.

  • What does singleness look like for you?
  • How has it changed over the years?
  • Is there such a thing as the gift of singleness?
  • Do you find it hard to trust God in this season of your life? Why?

Chris Estrada said, “Hidden seasons are sacred seasons. Being hidden with Christ means you will go through seasons where you feel like your whole life is under construction.”

  • Are you content in your current situation?
  • Is your identity wrapped up in your singleness?
  • How can married couples support you during this season?

I am the host of an ABF Lifegroup - a collection of folks doing community and life together. We are a ministry of Agoura Bible Fellowship. When I am not leading this group, I love to travel, take photographs, share stories, and design workspaces that matter.
