LGD 005: You Are a Gift

Easter has just passed, and Christmas is a distant memory, but the one thing we can appreciate is a gift.

Gifts come in many different forms – a card, your time, or coffee with a friend.

However, the one thing that unites all of these things is they are gifts.

Gifts are unexpected, and usually unpredictable. You can have the gag gifts – been there – lots of fun; I’m pretty sure there is a Chia Pet around here somewhere.

You can have the sentimental, sappy gifts – who doesn’t love those Hallmark moments.

The one gift that we have as believers is that we were chosen. Just as you choose a gift for someone special, we were chosen. In fact, we were bought with a price.

That price – Christ’s death on a cross.

Peter reminds us,

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

1 Peter 2:9

We are God’s special possession. What does someone who cares for you, who values you, who loves you – give you. They give you a gift.

God gave us Jesus so that we may have life so that we can live without fear and anxiety, especially in these difficult times. He did not promise you that it would easy or free of trial.

John says,

“…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

John 10:10

You are a gift to this world. There is only one you. The world is blessed to have you in it.

The question that haunts me is,

Am I squandering his gift?

Prayer: Lord, today is a new day. You know what is going to happen before it happens. Thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for redeeming me so I can have life, and live abundantly. I ask you go before me today. To make my day great. To give me rest, and hope, and peace, and be able to give that gift to someone else. I am so glad to be in your family. Amen!
