Let’s shift gears today. I am thankful for each of you. Every time I think of my LifeGroup family – it brings a smile to my face.
Lately, it seems like all we hear is the bad news. Our days can be stressful, but a call or a text from a friend can lift our spirits.
What I love about the book of Philippians are the nuggets of truth and encouragement that line these pages.
Imagine waking up each day to hear these words,
“Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.”Philippians 1:3
The writer does not say “every so often” or “occasionally” I think about you, but every time. He could be having a bad day, and he thinks of his Philippian brothers and sisters and gives thanks for them.
Who are you thinking of right now – give thanks to God for them.
Next, the writer says,
“Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy,”Philippians 1:4
His requests are earnest and heartfelt. He lifts up the good and the bad. The blessings and the heartaches with joy.
Who needs to be lifted to God today? Do it with joy.
Why does the writer give thanks and pray for them?
“…for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now.”Philippians 1:5
The Good News is not something to held close to the vest, but to be shared. Sharing can be standing on the street corner proclaiming what Christ has done, but it can also be in a text, a phone call, or a simple question. God uses you to spread the Good News.
Who needs to hear the Good News today?
The writer proclaims with confidence,
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”Philippians 1:6
The work that Christ has done in you is good, but there is more work to do until He calls you heavenward. You have a purpose. God doesn’t make mistakes.
Ed Young said it best,
God is preparing you for what He has prepared for you.Ed Young, Jr.
Today, I am thinking of each of you. I am praying for you that God would reveal himself in a new way to you. That He would refresh your soul, and you would see how God is using you to spread the Good News.
You may be planter, a waterer, a sower or a reaper – each of us have a role to play in bringing people to Christ.
Thanks for being you!
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the reminder of your love. Thank you for those that paved the way for my salvation. I ask that you would use me to change a generation for Christ with whatever tools you have equipped and prepared me for. Thank you for my family and friends, please bless them and keep them today and give them a sweet touch of your presence. Amen!
