LGD 023: Wait Patiently

When was the last time that you sat and patiently waited for something? You might have found yourself waiting at the doctor’s office or for a job interview to begin or a test to begin.

In today’s busy and hectic world, we often forget how to sit and wait. Being still is tough, but it allows us a chance to hear from God, and rest.

The Psalms are beautiful for inviting us into a conversation with our Heavenly Father. The psalmist says,

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.”

Psalms 37:7

Some times we lose focus, and wonder why those who do not know the Lord succeed. However, the psalmist reminds us that by resting in God, and allowing Him to fight our battles the wicked only win a battle, not the war.

Waiting requires discipline. Waiting requires patience. In our busy lives, waiting is like death. We don’t want to wait in line. We don’t want to social distance. We don’t want to…you fill in your blank here.

When we wait, we learn to trust in what we do not see. We are taught humility and sacrifice.

One of my favorite passages of scripture is Hebrews 10:36:

“Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.’

Hebrews 10:36

When we wait patiently, we develop endurance, which helps us for the future when we are in trials.

As we continue through our quarantine, my prayer for you is that you learn to sit patiently during this time in order develop endurance for when you need it most.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for showing me the value of sitting and resting for awhile. I ask for your strength as I develop endurance by waiting patiently in this season of life. Please grant me a new sense of who you are during this season in order to receive all that you have promised for me. Thank you for hearing my request, and bless that day that is in front of me. Amen!
