LGD 025: Encourage Each Other

A few short months ago, many of us were planning our summer vacations and trips around the globe or serving in a foreign country and then COVID-19 struck.

And our lives were changed for the foreseeable future.

As a result of the changing times, my Mexico Missions trip has been canceled. Missionaries are bringing the Gospel of Christ to the hurting while meeting their physical needs with food.

Despite all of these things, God is at work around the globe. He is meeting the needs of the hurting and hungry. He is calling people to him by the truckloads.

And He wants us to know that He is in control.

Today, in our passage from Hebrews, the author guides us to encouragement.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,”

Hebrews 10:24

When we call or text, we spur one another on. We give each other hope when our days may be draining.

But why did the author need to issue this request?

The body of believer needed encouragement. Perhaps you are right there. You miss the church family. You miss seeing each other. You miss the hugs, the laughter, and the handshakes.

The author writes,

“not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Hebrews 10:25

Even though we cannot meet together in person, we still can meet together via the wonders of modern technology.

Consider this…God placed in the hearts of believers the ability to prepare the Church for this time in history by starting digital revolutions.

First, it was the radio.

Then, the TV.

Hello, Internet.

Today – Facebook Live, YouTube Live, TikTok, ChurchOnline, LiveStreaming, Video recorded messages, Video podcasts.

Our eyes can often miss the wonders of God’s preparation for such a time as this.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you.”

This too shall pass, but God saw it coming and he paved the way with technology so others could hear the most important message – God loves us. He cares for us. He desires that no one should parish.

As we enter the weekend, reflect on the encouragement of Hebrew 10:24-25 – we have not given up meeting together; however, we have been joined by a few hundred thousand of our closest friends.

Prayer: Lord, I know my eyes can miss the forest for the trees especially when I let anxious or stressful thoughts invade me. Thank you for providing men and women with the knowledge to shape a generation of technology that enables millions of people to hear the Gospel in their native tongues. Today, encourage our souls with the words of Hebrews. Amen!
