LGD 041: Press On

Life offers a chance to examine our rearview mirror moments and see them with a fresh perspective. We have heard it said before that “hindsight is 20/20”.

That may be the case, but the road is not as clear as the past.

During my tenure as a high school girls cross country coach, we spent some time assessing the past and learning from it.

However, our primary focus became how we used our knowledge of the past to inform our future.

Today’s scripture reminds us we cannot change the past, it’s in the past, but we must look at what lies ahead.

“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,”

Philippians 3:13

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”

Philippians 3:14

The future cautions and guides us toward a hopeful end. Each of us in a race – a race that has a conclusion.

Each of our races has a different end time. We are not all guaranteed the same amount of time on this earth. We are simply asked to make the most of the time we have on it.

During this health crisis, we have had to “press on” in our race. Our finish line is when we are called heavenward to see Jesus. Some races finish earlier than others, and only God knows what still needs to be accomplished in our lifetimes.

Today, I encourage you to take a few more steps toward your ultimate finish line and to live the life Christ has called you to live.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for helping us to press on towards our finish line. Today, use me to make a difference in someone’s life. Encourage me during this time, and build me up so that I may glorify you in words and deeds. Thank you for helping me along my race journey. Amen!

I am the host of an ABF Lifegroup - a collection of folks doing community and life together. We are a ministry of Agoura Bible Fellowship. When I am not leading this group, I love to travel, take photographs, share stories, and design workspaces that matter.
