Daily, the world continues to expand and contract. The world’s population totals just over eight billion souls. Of the eight billion souls, approximately two billion profess to be a believer in Christ.
What about the remaining six billion people?
In Matthew 9, Jesus says,
“He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few.”Matthew 9:37
The harvest refers to the people of this earth. In our time, that’s six billion people who do not have a relationship with Christ.
During the pandemic, we saw over a half a million people profess Christ as their Savior in a six week period. Continually, we are seeing more and more people come to Christ during these difficult times.
“So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”Matthew 9:38
Who did Jesus say should go?
Ask the Lord to send more workers. Some may interpret this to be missionaries. Missionaries who have the formal training to go out into the unreached people groups.
The commission covers them, but it also covers you. Yep…you! As believers, we are commissioned to go and make disciples.
We are commissioned to go out into the fields and participate in the harvest. Some of our roles may be to plant seeds, others to water, and others to harvest.
When we accepted Christ, we instantly were tasked with spreading the Gospel. Spreading the gospel can be across the street or across the world, but we are to spread the gospel.
Today, ask the Lord how you can help someone move along their spiritual journey.
Prayer: Lord, you have commissioned us to participate in the harvest of souls. As you demonstrated, let us follow your example and lead others to a saving knowledge of You. Thank you for your grace and your mercy. Most of all, thank you for calling me to You. Amen!
