LGD 048: Praise You Every Day

Hands raised in worship

During this turbulent time, we can lose our way if we are not grounded in what is real and right. Even though the days may seem dark, our Lord is worthy of praise.

The book of Psalms in the Old Testament is a welcome respite from the hard-fought battles of early scripture.

King David and his son King Solomon wrote most of the Psalms. Today’s psalm reads more like a song. It opens with…

“I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever.”

Psalms 145:2

When our hearts are focused upwards towards heaven, our mind loses sight of the temporal struggles we face. During this COVID season, sometimes we only see the struggle we face.

By repeating the words of Psalms 145:2, we engage our hearts to guide us towards peace. The psalmist continues…

“Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.”

Psalms 145:3

I recently watched a documentary on Continent 7 (Antarctica) – the last great frontier. I was struck by the beauty and majesty of the south arctic.

While watching, I could help but praise God for a few things:

  • The beauty and majesty of arctic
  • The detail of His creation – the animals, the landscape and the sky
  • The scientists who live on the continent and want to know more about how this one continent can protect the rest of the globe.

When you see the southern lights on your tv screen, you have to realize that it must be a million times better in reality. Great is the Lord! Only He could have created all of these things.

Our psalmist continues…

“Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.”

Psalms 145:4

It is not just a one and done opportunity for us to live today; we are telling the generations behind us. Tell your kids, your grandkids, your great-grandkids.

In the Old Testament scriptures, we see the passing of history and greatness from one generation to another. The Lord said I am God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.

The Israelites grew up hearing these stories – re-living them generation upon generation.

The psalmist shares…

“Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.”

Psalms 145:7

David and Solomon had seen God’s hand of protection upon their family. David was hunted by King Saul for years before he took the throne. Solomon had to decide the fate of a baby between two women.

God is good, and today we share in the goodness of what God is doing and praise him.

Today, raise your hands in praise and adoration to the creator of life and thank Him for goodness and greatness.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your goodness and greatness. Thank you for creating the heavens and earth, and all that lies within it. Thank you for choosing us, and send your Son so we can live with you in eternity. Great are you Lord! Amen!
