When we are young, we think we are invincible and untouchable. As we grow older (and wiser), we come to realize that invincibility is a myth.
Paul wrote to his community in Ephesus and encouraged his new and seasoned believers. He said,
“Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”Ephesians 3:17b
Paul wanted the church’s roots to be anchored in God’s love. As the Holy Spirit lives in you, realize your faith is tethered to God’s love which grows deep in you, and creates the foundation of your hope.
He goes on to say,
“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.”Ephesians 3:18
We cannot comprehend the vastness of God’s love or understanding. He created the world in six days, it would be incorrect for us to assert we know the extent of his grace, love, and compassion.
When we see the complexity of the polar ice caps and how vast the ice shelf extends beyond our understanding, how can we assume we know all that encompasses the creator?
Paul further says,
“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”Ephesians 3:19
Try and understand God’s love – I dare you, I double-dog dare you. But even if you experience a tiny bit of His love, you still can experience something beyond your wildest comprehension.
When we experience God, as best as we can, we live completely knowing we can receive power and life from our Heavenly Father.
Today, may you experience God in a new and fresh way. Maybe it will be through a smile or a laugh or the beauty of His creation. Soak it in and experience His love.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving us life. Thank you for speaking the world into existence and leaving us some mystery to explore and experience. May we feel the touch of your hand today and always. Amen!
