LGD 058: Gift From Above

Northern Lights in winter

Do you have a bucket list? I have always been fascinated with Antarctica. I’m not sure why since it is like 20 degrees below zero in the summertime. Perhaps it’s because of the spectacular southern lights.

In Antarctica: A Year On Ice, filmmaker Anthony Powell documented his experience on the little known seventh continent. It was on this continent that he met, fell in love, and got married.

This extraordinary continent plays host to incredible wildlife as well as several hundred researchers each summer, but they never want to stick around for the winter.

As summer turns to winter, the darkness replaces the light. It is during these dark months that the beauty of the southern lights begins.

What an incredible gift from our Heavenly Father to witness the beauty of the southern lights. I would settle for seeing the northern lights as well.

Today, James shares with us to not lose heart, but to persevere in our trials. He says,

“So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”

James 1:16-17

In this time of uncertainty, James reminds us that God is constant. The shadows may circle us, and change based on the direction of the sun, but God’s love never changes.

Every day is a precious gift from our Heavenly Father. When life gets tough, and it feels like the walls are closing in or imploding around you, God’s gift might get lost in the may lay.

Today, take a few minutes to appreciate the sunrise or the sunset. See the beauty God provides each day to us.

Scripture reminds us to not worry about tomorrow for today has enough for us. At the end of the day, look up and see the stars that dance in the sky.

It may not be as beautiful as the northern or southern lights, but it is a reminder that God is watching us and given us this moment in time.

Today, rest in the promise that God’s love is unchanging and perfect. None of us are perfect, only He is. Only He could craft a perfect day when you need it most.

Don’t be misled – He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the beauty of another day. I don’t know what it holds, but I do know that your love is perfect and unchanging. Help me to rest in this simple fact. Thank you for the beauty You have created. Amen!
