Mission trips are great for displaying the different spiritual gifts of team members. We cannot all be builders, designers, or teachers.
The Church is made of different types of people. If we were all the same, it would be a pretty boring Church.
Believers bring their backgrounds, talents, and gifts to serve the body of Christ and our neighbors. What’s great about traveling outside of our culture is we get to worship with other believers with diverse backgrounds.
“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.”1 Corinthians 12:4-5
The short-term mission field is challenging and fun. It allows us to exercise our gifts to serve others and the body of Christ.
In our day jobs, we may sit in an office building or teach in a classroom or enjoy being retired. However, out in the sun, we can share our creativity through song, building homes, or taking photographs.
Certainly, individuals who have stronger gifts towards giving and service may find it slightly easier to adapt to new cultures and participate in these types of trips, but, God uses all people to accomplish His purpose.
Whether you are called to get on a plane or in a van or help finance someone in that endeavor, you exercise your gifts for the betterment of the body of believers.
Today, say a quick little prayer for the thousands of full-time missionaries whom God has called to serve as their profession.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for allowing us to join You in the work you are doing all over the globe. Help me to use my gifts every day to serve you more. Keep our missionaries safe as they do your work full-time. Amen!
