LGD 115: The Plans He Has For Us

Man standing in front of two paths

When we began this year, we all had plans. We would crush our goals, see our businesses double in size, and go on that epic vacation.

And then COVID-19 hit us, and all our plans seem to go by the wayside. Life has an interesting way of creating new choices and opportunities for us.

I have a friend who, unfortunately, was a casualty of job loss. It breaks my heart to hear his story, and my first reaction was disbelief and then frustration.

He has become a mentor in my field of study, and although we don’t work for the same company, we do have similar goals.

The story, in this case, had a good ending as he was able to continue with his consulting business, but his path changed dramatically in an instant.

We have plans, dreams, ideas of where we thought we would be, and what we thought we would do in life.

Jeremiah shares,

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'”

Jeremiah 29:11

When the Coronavirus hit, and families lost loved ones or jobs, this verse is not what they wanted to hear.

I think believers can over-spiritualize a situation when all the person really needs is someone to listen and pray for them. Later, they might ready to hear the words of Jeremiah.

Believers know God has a plan for them, but He also grants us free will to make our own choices, and that’s where the plan goes awry.

We are not without hope. Jeremiah was none of the major prophets, and he was known for speaking the word of God exactly as God gave it to him, and many of the recipients did not like to hear what he had to say.

In this troubling time, we have to rest in the knowledge that God has a plan, and it is for our good. We will hit bumps along the way and make some bad choices, but ultimately, God wants what is best for us.

Today, take a few minutes to ask God to reveal His plans for your life.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for having a plan for me, even when I get in the way and mess it up. Forgive me when I deviate from Your plan, and gently guide me back to the path you have created for me. Amen!
