For the most part, the election is behind us, and Veteran’s Day is rapidly approaching. The week begins just like it does every week, with a few more variables mixed in.
As I was preparing for this post, the word that came to mind was hope. We have hope in a future that we cannot see. Hope for our churches, our relationship, and our nation.
I don’t know which side of the aisle you sit on about politics, but I care deeply about relationships.
Today, I began a new book titled The Space Between Us by Sarah Bauer Anderson. I heard her speak with Andy Stanley on how politics and religion can create a divide in families.
Her book hopes to reunite the conversation in families and friends, so the divide is not insurmountable.
The only true hope for our us (and the world) is Jesus. In Matthew 12, the author shares a passage from Isaiah about Jesus being God’s chosen servant.
This passage that shows up in Matthew was prophesied hundreds of years previous by the prophet Isaiah.
It concludes with this verse,
“In his name the nations will put their hope.”
Matthew 12:21
This verse is comforting. No matter how dark it may get, our hope rests with Jesus.
The Jews missed Jesus come the first time as their Messiah, but there will be no mistake when Christ comes again.
Jesus’ name will be broadcast so the world may hear it and respond. He is our hope and our future. What we are experiencing today – this turmoil and strife are temporal.
Temporal.
The only thing we are guaranteed is today.
We are not guaranteed tomorrow.
Our goal, as believers, should be guiding people into a relationship with Jesus before it is too late.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the words from Matthew that were foretold long before their writing and long before our lifetime. Please help us to fix our eyes on You and to place our hope in You. Amen!
